The Pages of Time
Deborah Shepard
Publish America (2006)
ISBN 1424107903
Reviewed by William Phenn for Reader Views (9/06)

A compassionate woman with a flair for life, living, and all her surroundings, Deborah Shepard was born in California and now lives in Washington State with her husband of 32 years. She has been writing for over 30 years and has worked in child development since 1977. She has taught in the US Army Child Development Center both in California and Washington and has even had her own FCC home for children. This experience coupled with living on the beautiful shores of the mighty Pacific Ocean, have been her inspiration for the many emotionally-charged pages.

“The Pages of Time” is a collection of Deborah’s prose and poetry that she has written over time. It is a very warm and wonderful work filled with stories of Fairies, Angels, dreams and fantasies. From the first untitled poem to the last utopia, Ms. Shepard takes the reader on a journey through time. Endless time and fantasy abound when there is no shortage of imagination. Deborah has brought her thoughts to these pages in a manner that is interesting and captivating.

. . . ”To set my eyes with your breaths nigh, I shall love thee till everlasting doves soar high.” is one of my favorite passages in this very well-written little collection.

“The Pages of Time” only has 80 pages and is a very easy read. It is just the thing for sitting by a fire with milk and cookies and the little ones huddled around. I enjoyed “The Pages of Time”very much and the only problem with it is the lack of titles for the wonderfully written poetry. “The Pages of Time” has all the ingredients of a very good book. A quirk that detracted from its excellence, no titles for poems, caused me a bit of annoyance when referring to a particular poem. Other than that, I gave it a very high B+ rating.
